Welcome!

Fête des Pets, which means “Party for Pets,” was organized to raise money for local animal rescue groups and promote their missions.

Many of us share a special love for animals and care very much about the epidemic of abused, abandoned, and homeless pets. Sometimes the sadness and feelings of helplessness prevent us from taking action. Not everyone has it in them to volunteer, become a foster parent, or help financially. Many people want to help, but they just don’t know how.

The Fête des Pets is an opportunity to bring such people together for a fun and exciting evening to accomplish this goal in a different way. Its purpose is to raise money for local animal rescue groups that provide safe environments, care and treatment of abandoned and homeless animals in our area. In addition, we want to raise awareness of the all too rapidly growing numbers of these animals within our community, through an annual event that will grow every year.

This year, Fête des Pets proceeds will go to support not one, but two local animal rescue groups. The Humane Society of Charlotte and the S.A.F.E. Animal Haven will receive equal shares. Both provide a safe and secure environments, medical care and treatment for homeless animals awaiting adoption. They also provide community education and awareness.

About Us:

Fête des Pets is now an official event! The concept of the event started a long time ago and by accident. In December of 2000, I hosted a casual holiday open house. To my surprise, most of my guests brought not only gifts for me, but also for my dog Nadia. I always thought of Nadia as a member of my family, my baby girl. I was so touched that other people considered her in the same way. Nadia received so many toys and treats, it made me think of all the homeless animals that needed them more than she did. I decided at that moment that I wouldn’t let that happen again. So this simple idea of a holiday open house turned into an event with a greater purpose. The next year, when I planned my holiday party, with the invitation I included a wish list for homeless animals at the Humane Society. Every guest who attended brought something from the wish list. It was so much fun, I decided to make it a tradition. Since the event was inspired by Nadia, my theme had always been about her; Nadia asking her four-legged friends’ parents to help us get gifts for her homeless friends at the shelter. With each passing year, the open house became bigger and better!

Nadia passed away October 15th, 2006. She was 10 years old. I was so devastated, I thought I would never have room in my heart for another dog. After almost a year, my husband helped me realize that there was a place in my heart for another pet. We have a good home, and all of the love I gave to Nadia was still there, ready to be focused on a new family member! I decided to look into rescuing a homeless dog, jumped online, and discovered S.A.F.E. One of S.A.F.E.’s volunteers was fostering a dog named Charlotte. Her photo had not been posted yet; there was just a description of her. She and her 6 puppies were abandoned by her previous owner. After I read her story, I wanted her. I had no idea what she looked like, but I didn’t care – I wanted her anyway. And her name was Charlotte, so it was meant to be.

Charlotte has been with us since September 24th, 2007. She is such a special little dog. And she came from a very special place. S.A.F.E. rescued Charlotte and her pups. I am so grateful to this organization for Charlotte and what they do for every other dog they foster.

When I started planning the event for this year, I decided that both S.A.F.E. and the Humane Society of Charlotte would benefit. In the end, this is how these two groups have been brought together for one event.

We all hope that you join us this year for the newest, biggest celebration around for all of our furry friends!

Humane Society of CharlotteThe Humane Society of Charlotte is working with you to create a world where there are no more homeless and unwanted animals. We are proud to be a “No-Kill of Adoptable Animals” shelter. “No-Kill of Adoptable Animals” means saving all cats and dogs that are treatable and trainable. Euthanasia is reserved only for unhealthy and untreatable animals and for untrainable animals that pose a serious threat to public safety. We are committed to treating all animals that enter our shelter with love, kindness, and dignity. “Trainable” refers to animals whose behavioral or temperamental issues can be overcome through training. “Treatable” is defined as an unhealthy animal that could become healthy with reasonable treatment and efforts. Feral cats occupy their own category and require a different kind of intervention by feral cat organizations.

The Humane Society of Charlotte’s mission is to bring love and hope to all animals by insuring the humane treatment of companion animals through adoption, spay/neuter and education. Our vision is all animals in safe and loving homes. This vision will be accomplished by providing care and compassion for all animals, physically and emotionally; education and information on the humane and responsible treatment of all animals; respect for animals and people; integrity in word and deed; collaboration with the community; and fiscal responsibility and accountability to the community.

SAFE of CharlotteWe are a small foster home system that wants to make sure every pet can find its way home.  If it can’t find its way home, then we will provide a safe, caring and secure environment until it finds a new home.  We believe that a caring and compassionate commitment to the pets that we share our lives with provides for an enriching environment for us all.  We believe that it is our responsibility to leave footprints for the ones that will come behind us, to make a difference and to make our contributions meaningful and long-lasting. We are a non-profit group of volunteers who care deeply about animals and our community. We exist entirely on donations from our supporters. We see hundreds of animals whose bonds with humans have been broken. To help maintain and restore those bonds, we serve as a community resource for information about companion animals and their care. From the importance of proper food and regular veterinary visits to tips on housebreaking a puppy or preventing a cat from clawing the new couch, we give people the skills and knowledge they need to enjoy the animals in their lives.

We want to create awareness within our community about the immediate need to reduce the number of unwanted and discarded pets. The cornerstone of our program is to educate and promote the concept of spaying and neutering. Our educational programs are designed to foster those values of respect, compassion, and reverence for life that make the world a safer place for both animals and humans, Each year, our staff of volunteers takes our message of compassion to schools and community groups.
